Dominican animals
The fauna of the Dominican Republic is very diverse. This country has a variety of reptiles, birds and insects, while mammals are relatively few.
The indigenous mammals in the Dominican Republic are Hutia and Scaletooth. Hutya is an endangered rodent. As for the crack-tooth, it is a unique insectivorous mammals, which also belongs to endangered species. Other mammals in the Dominican fauna include bats, ferret, and manatee (a large mammal that lives in rivers).

The iguana is the most famous of the reptiles found in the Dominican Republic. It can often be found in the Sierra de Baoruco and Pedernales mountains. The crocodile is another representative of the animal world of the Dominican Republic. You can find it in Lake Enriquillo and in some other lakes and ponds. Other reptiles that are found in the Dominican Republic include: snakes, lizards, chameleon, and the endangered biss turtle.
More than 800 species of fish and marine organisms can be found in Dominican waters, including several species of sharks, sea bass, tuna, marlins, etc.
Other animals of the Dominican Republic belong to the families of amphibians, crustaceans and arachnids. Among amphibians, frogs and toads can be distinguished. Among arachnids, the most representative are spiders and scorpions, and among crustaceans - shrimp, lobster and crabs
The fauna in the Dominican Republic is quite diverse. In terms of the number of species of animals and other living creatures, this tropical state bypasses many countries. If you are in the Dominican Republic, you will definitely meet some exotic animal just walking down the street.
