Songkran: how Thailand celebrates New Year

Thailand is an extremely colorful and interesting country to travel. There is a lot of exotic and incomprehensible for many travelers here. It is this, in combination with the sea and nature, that attracts, like a magnet, tourists and travelers of all countries from all over the world. They know that it is Thailand that is the land of smiles that makes guests happy. Some kind of celebration is celebrated here almost every month.

This is Songkran today, the Thai New Year, and has become an excellent tourist fun, but in reality the holiday has a sacred meaning. Water is blessed in temples by Buddhist monks. And the water must be clean and fresh - salty is not good for blessing. And spraying is carried out neatly - not from head to toe. Also, water should not come into contact with the head, mouth and ears.

However, in the resort cities - Phuket, Pattaya and many others - young people do not observe this tradition. She is armed with water cannons to take part in a real water battle. In Chiang Mai, for example, water is pumped directly from the moat in the city center after cleaning it. Sometimes ice or even paint is added to water cannons - then the sensations become much sharper. Therefore, it is not recommended to wear new clothes these days.

However, in April, Thailand has wonderful weather, so wet clothes, T-shirts and shorts do not cause any discomfort. It is believed that the more times and more abundantly you are poured, the more successful the year will be. The holiday symbolizes the change of seasons - soon after it is believed to be the rainy season.

If you are looking for something to do in Thailand during the period from 13 to 15 April, Songkran will be a very interesting leisure time for you and your children.
