Tegallalang Rice Terraces - Bali's visiting card
Tegallalang Rice Terraces
Located in the central part of Bali, 9 km north of Ubud. This is one of the oldest and most visited attractions on the island.

It is believed that terraces appeared here about 2000 years ago. According to more realistic estimates, they were laid in the 9th century. There is not much fertile land in Bali, especially in the mountains. And for growing rice requires a fairly large area

The landscape on the terraces varies, depending on the stage of rice growth. Initially, the fields are filled with water. According to the system of irrigation canals, the upper steps are first filled, then the water flows to the lower ones. Terraces look like mirrors reflecting the sky. Then the fields are plowed with the help of buffalo, at this time they resemble dirty swamps.

There are several cafes and restaurants right next to the terraces that serve local or European cuisine. For example, at Teras Padi Cafe you can dine outdoors on the veranda overlooking the rice terraces.

Here are some tips from us:
- Take comfortable, preferably closed shoes. The paths on the plantations steeply go down, they are uneven. In addition, there are snakes
- Be sure to bring mosquito repellent with you.
- It is better to come to the plantations in the early morning or late evening. It’s hot in the afternoon and there are too many tourists
- If you are photographing a landscape, and someone from the locals got into the frame, they may ask you for a fee, so watch this carefully if you do not want to spend extra money
