Phuket - the pearl of Thailand
Phuket, Thailand - is both one of the largest provinces and the largest island of the kingdom. Almost the entire territory of the province is located on the island and only a small part of it is located on the mainland of the country. Southwest coast of the country - the location of the island. It is washed by the waters of the Andaman Sea, which is a kind of bay of the Indian Ocean. Absolutely all along the coast of Phuket there are many tropical beaches and resorts.
Only during its modern history, the island of Phuket began to receive the bulk of income from tourism activities, receiving an incredible popularity all over the world. But this was not always the case - most of its history Phuket played the role of an important shopping center, through which the ships of the leading European countries of that time passed on their way to China from India and vice versa.
Features of climate and weather
The island climate is essentially divided into just a couple of seasons, namely, dry and wet. The air temperature is almost a round goal is unchanged, in the region of 30 degrees Celsius, plus or minus a couple of degrees. The main, not very pleasant "highlight" of Phuket is - humidity, which also stays in the air almost all year round. Locals have long adapted to such conditions, in contrast to tourists who are forced to flee with the help of air conditioners, by the way, there are plenty of them on the island.
From about November to May, the dry season lasts, accompanied by sunny weather, good and warm sea, as well as almost no rains. However, in this period there are a lot of tourists. Still, the peak of the season falls at the end of November and until April, when the sea is just as calm and warm, and the humidity is several times lower.
It is worth mentioning that the prices for rental housing in Phuket almost always depend on the season, of which there are three: low, high and peak.
Culture of Phuket residents
The inhabitants of Phuket are Thais and, accordingly, they are characterized by Thai culture, which we will now briefly describe. The indigenous inhabitants of the island, like all Thais, and, in principle, as most of the peoples of Southeast Asia are very kind to foreigners, friendly and hospitable. Local people often smile with or without reason, and also do not mind chatting, finding out where you are, although they can know only a few words in English - this does not prevent them from showing their curiosity :)
But you should know that despite the fact that although the Thais are very kind and affable, they do not accept a disrespectful attitude towards their faith and the royal family. Both of these things they are very respected.
A bit about faith / religion
About 95% of Thai people profess Buddhism and Phuket is no exception. Buddhism has a great influence on the lives of local people. People in Thailand often visit temples, which are enormous in the whole country and bring various kinds of donations there. Thus, Thai Buddhists believe that this will help them achieve a better life.
Buddhism does not imply the worship of any god. Buddhism is a kind of philosophy based on self-improvement, purification of the spirit and belief in reincarnation.
