And although Alex Garland, the author of the book on which the film was shot, had in mind another island in the Gulf of Thailand, they shot it on the uninhabited island of Phi Phi Lei. The scene was the secluded Maya Bay, surrounded by high green hills, and its gorgeous snow-white beach - unusually beautiful in itself, but still gaining fame and popularity among tourists from all over the world thanks to the film of the same name
