Phuket temples
Wat is a Thai word meaning "temple". There are many temples in Phuket and they are open to foreigners.
95% of Thais are Buddhists and have tremendous respect for their religion. Thais often visit temples on various occasions, holidays or just for offerings. Buddhist temples are striking in abundance of gold and red, brightly decorated with spiers. Inside there is a decorated Buddha statue and other religious artifacts.
In Phuket, a quarter of the population is Muslim, so mosques are often found. Muslims of Phuket are quite friendly and welcoming. Many mosques are open to tourists, but it is worth asking permission and not entering the mosque during the service. Dressing to go to church is modest, especially for women.
