Besakih Temple (Pura Agung Besakih)

Pura Agung Besakih is considered the main temple in Bali! He is also one of the island’s sacred temples, of which there are only nine!

More than 1000 years ago, it was built on the active Agung volcano to protect local residents. One of the most significant events in the history of Pura Besakih can be considered the eruption of the volcano Agung. On March 18, 1963, Agung Crater exploded and threw lava flows from itself. They came down the slopes of the volcano and destroyed everything in their path. Despite the fact that the temple is located on the slope of the volcano, lava flows bypassed it. It was an accident, or indeed the will of the gods - no one knows. But the Balinese are sure that it was the temple that saved the island from monstrous destruction.

The whole complex consists of three main temples. Each of them is dedicated to one of the deities of the Hindu pantheon (it is often called Trimurti or Trisakti)
This triad includes:
- Brahma - creator god
- Vishnu - guardian god
- Shiva is the destroyer god

Tips for tourists from us:
- The navigator. The road to the temple runs along the central part of the island. There the tourist infrastructure is not very well developed, and in the countryside it is easy enough to get lost. Locals are unlikely to understand you if you ask where the Besakikh temple is located. Therefore, it is best to go on a trip with a navigator with you. ㅤ ㅤ ㅤ ㅤ ㅤ ㅤ

- Stock of gasoline. A mountain road will require more fuel than usual. It’s better to take care of this in advance, because to remain without gas somewhere in the middle of the woods is not the most pleasant way to spend time

- Water and some snack. Have to go at least an hour and a half. If you are thirsty, then a bottle of water will be very handy. You don’t need to take a lot, because near the temple you can buy more. I also advise you to take some food to eat on the go.

- An umbrella or raincoat. The temple is located at an altitude of 1,000 meters above sea level, and rain is not uncommon here. If you do not have an umbrella or a raincoat, you can buy it on the spot
