SILENCE DAY IN BALI OR WHAT IS NYEPI

The population of the island uses several calendars in their daily lives. The Gregorian calendar (the one we use) is taken as the basis for conducting public affairs and business. The calendar used by the religion of Bali does not coincide with our usual calendar

Nyepi or the day of silence in Bali is celebrated every spring on the night of the new moon, so the date of the celebration changes every year, and most often falls on March or the very beginning of April. This year, this holiday fell on March 25, that is, today!

Niepieu, or Day of Silence, one of the most important holidays in the culture of the island, is preceded by several ritual ceremonies in which almost all the indigenous people of Bali participate
ㅤ ㅤ ㅤ ㅤ
On this day, starting at 6 a.m., for 24 hours, the whole island is immersed in calm and silence. The point is to make the demons believe that no one is on the island
ㅤ ㅤ ㅤ ㅤ
On Nyepi, the Balinese (as well as everyone in Bali) follow 5 rules:
1. Do not break the silence, including not talking
2. Do not light, maximum - candles
3. Do not work
4. Do not have fun
5. Do not leave home.
ㅤ ㅤ ㅤ ㅤ
Thus, everyone should stay at home and forget for one day about the phone, music and TV. On the day of silence in Bali, you can’t cook food, many Balinese do not even eat anything on this day. Niepie is a day when you need to listen to yourself, look inside, spend time meditating, think about your life and spiritually purify yourself
ㅤ ㅤ ㅤ ㅤ
Nyepi on the island does not work. No shops, no bars, no clubs, not even an airport. The only exception is ambulance services.
Guests of the island should also obey the rules of Niepie. At least to stay indoors and not make noise
